In the phrase of Abraham Lincoln, democracy is a government "of the people, by the people, and for the people."
In the dictionary definition, democracy "is government by the people in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system."
Many intellectual people and politician of India shouting that democracy is good for the freedom of people and for the development of the country. They also shouting that only democracy is the way for freedom of people. India claims to be the biggest democracy in the world which is divided by caste, religion, language etc. we are proud of this. Democracy says “By the People for the People” but in reality there is no respite for people of this land. In fact I sometimes feel we could have been better under a monarchy than under these shameless politicians. They have shattered this nation for greed. There are certain rights and political values that comes from the democracy as under.
POLITICAL VALUES
JUSTICE, social, economic and political; LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation.
The Rights of Citizens in a Democracy
In a democracy, every citizen has certain basic rights that the state cannot take away from them. We have the right to speech, right to association think, own beliefs, and write what we think. Freedom of religion. Everyone is free to choose their own religion and to worship and practice their religion as they see fit. Every individual has the right to enjoy their own culture, along with other members of their group, even if their group is a minority.
There is freedom and pluralism in the mass media .We can choose between different sources of news and opinion to read in the newspapers, to hear on the radio, and to watch on television. We have the right to assemble freely, and to protest government actions.
Ohh… how many rights for the people it’s like that make people totally free, but as per my view it is not true. Now you see in your daily life and compare all that rights and values and see really you are free to do what you want and, I am not free to do what i want, there should be certain restrictions. As per my view we are free only when we are able to do what we think and what we want otherwise we are not free. It is not only for the people of India but also for the India, after 1947 we accept that India and it’s people are free but as per my view it is not true I give you an example.
1. If anybody from India went to western countries like UK,USA there we must have to speak their language(English) and if they came here then also we have to speak their language they not speak our language.
2. If Australian or England cricket team came to India for playing, first they send their security team for investigation and it found good condition only after then their government give permission, but if Indian team go to any country for playing our government does not take such kind of steps.
3. In spite of over one billion population we have to study our education in their language, not only study but also our CONSTITUTION is written in English, at that time nearly 10% people were knew English. There are many examples like this.
Then what type of freedom is this. Think about it.
I respect your thoughts, but Democracy is the best compare to other government systems.Keep it up.Best of luck.
ReplyDelete@mayur : nice words , Democracy is most desirable form of government, I agree that Indian democracy has its colours, for me the three points you have put is bit ambiguous bcoz its a socio political thoughts. in point no. Its Liberty of individual which makes him to speak whatever langauge he feels good , our democracy allows that ; in point no. 2 : its a lack of political awarness among our top guns in point no. 3 : written constitution is mere a piece of document. Language doesn't matter to make people aware about their rights and duty . I am looking forward to you to put some more examples so that i can counter you , happy blogging :)
